Simplicity 1239| A Christmas coat for my grandogger
Well, it's that time of year again, and Shasta gets a new coat. This year I made a red and white fleece coat. I made her several neck warmers and a couple of snoods, but I thought they were missing something...a coat. So, I went through my pattern stash and took out Simplicity 1239, view D, and got busy. I wanted Shasta to have a neck warmer instead of the attached collar. I think the neck warmers look so much better than the collar, and they keep her neck warm. Making the change from the standard collar to a neck warmer was semi easy for me because I had to guess her neck measurement and had to decrease the neckline on the pattern (based on my guestimate), and anytime I make a change to a pattern, I have to stop and think about how the new change will affect the next several steps. Sewing the jacket was the easy part, but I wasn't sure how my machine would sew through 6 layers (the neckline) of fabric. I have a Brother PQ1500sl, and it sewed through the layers like butter. For the fabric, I used red fleece, and the white lining was from a fleece blanket. I tried her coat on and it fits well, but I could have lengthened the coat to add a few more inches because her body is long. She loved her new coat sew much that she didn't want to take it off.
