12+ | Christmas StockingsThese are the other stockings I made using the same pattern. The very first deviation from the pattern was with the white minky stocking (see below). All I did was make it about an inch taller. And the second deviation was when I placed the, ahem, ruffled cuff, pink flower and burlap bow on the kitchen-themed stocking.
I thought I might get a little bored if I continued to reuse the same pattern, So the journey begins with a trip to the fabric store to purchase a new pattern, and my search led me to McCalls 5778. This was different because the cuff was ruffled and just what I wanted. After looking online at so many pretty ruffle-cuffed Christmas stockings, I just had to try it. This would be my bold move away from the standard stocking cuff. My second journey was an online one. I spent hours each day and night admiring all the stockings I saw and, oh, the possibilities. This online journey led to me a site called Sew4Home: Christmas in July with Moda. I simply loved the design of the English Cottage stockings and had to make it.. I made this stocking using the McCalls pattern and a stocking that was supposed to have a bow. I lengthened and widened the cuff to get more height and gathers. Voila! The result is below..
This is where the search through the catalog led me. I was so excited about sewing it. This would be my very first ruffled stocking (see pink and green stocking below). I was pretty satisfied with the outcome until I saw that the bow was too high (too close to the cuff), and I thought that it was waaay too large in comparison to the small stockings I had made. I told hubby I could wear this as a boot because it looked like a size 9. So I contemplated NOT making more of this "Bigfoot" stocking. The following day, I sent a picure of this stocking to my sister; her response: "I WANT A GIANT STOCKING." So I thought, hmm...that is what I will call it!. You can put so much more in these giant stockings if your willing to spend more money on gifts, of course. Forget all the extra gift bags to purchase, be frugal and use ONE of these for the entire family. Here you can also see my most recent additions to my Christmas stockings. I have made and sold several personalized black Santa Claus Christmas stockings and black Mrs Claus Christmas stockings this year (2017). I made a lighted Christmas Stocking for my daughter. I also made an African American Christmas stocking ("Have a Wondafro Christmas"), pictured above. |
