I have been wanting to make a sighthound collar for my granddogger for some time. I have seen so many beautiful sighthound collars online that I thought these collars would be my next project. What I decided to do instead of making a collar was to make a neckband, l will deal with the collars once I perfect the bands. Although this is a neckband, she is still able to wear it while wearing her collar. I didn't have a pattern and could not find one online, so I made my own pattern. The band measures about 3.5" high at the widest part. When I started sewing these bands, I only focused on design and not sewing technique, so the first one I made (the pink with white polka dots) is evident. These sighthound bands do not have to have the bias tape as shown, I just thought it added a nice touch. I am trying to perfect my stitch-in-the-ditch method of sewing bias tape, the green and black band was almost perfect. I used Kam snaps to secure the band, I did not want to use Velcro simply because I do not like the way it looks when stitched on the band, but one certainly can use Velcro. You can see creases in the neck band. I did use batting, but next time I can either use interfacing or sew quilting lines to give it more support. Shasta the saluki hates anything to touch her, so she actually tried taking the tassels off the pink and white band, but thank goodness they were too short for her to remove. I made the green and black band with just one tassel and noticed that she wasn't bothered with just one tassel. I might even place the template for this pattern on my website. |

I created the pattern using my Brother ScanNCut machine.
